Last foal to arrive…
Bang on her due date the last mare foaled. The mare is Wishing by Welt Hit 11 out of Sable by Sion x Weltmeister. She produced the most exquisite typey filly by Hanoverian Reserve Grading Champion 2007 and Bundeschampionat candiate 2010, Christ. Christ comes from the Calypso II dynasty and is by the multi-talented sire Competent. Christ has links through the Hanoverian family of Sudette 853 to over 40 licensed stallions including Derrik, Aktuell, Sandford and top show-jumpers like Top Gun and Kim.
I was a bit worried about her Mum taking to looking after her but she has proved to be another natural. Well, that is it, four foals, all born without a problem and happily in the field with playmates of a similar age.
I have entered the BEF Futuritys this year with the mares and foals. I am really excited to be taking part but a little nervous as well. I have shown in ridden classes a long time ago but not much in hand before. I took the time last year to watch as many Futuritys as I could to see how it was done. Now there is an excellent video on line at the BEF website demonstrating what the judges want to see and how to present your mare and foal. There is so much to see at the Futuritys – and learn. My first entry is at Hartpury in July so it is only about four weeks. I am sorting bridles and headcollars and starting on check lists already!
